Magdalite™
Premium natural mineral asphaltite from Colombia’s Magdalena Valley
What is Magdalite?
Magdalite™ is a naturally occurring solid hydrocarbon mineral — a premium-grade asphaltite mined in Colombia near the Magdalena Valley. Superior to other asphaltites, Magdalite features a unique chemical composition with high carbon content (>84%), minimum sulfur content (<0.3%), and an exceptionally high softening point of 220°C (396°F).
Flagship Resources markets and distributes Magdalite™ globally through a fully integrated supply chain — from mine to port of Cartagena, onto ocean vessels, and delivered to any destination worldwide. The product is processed by grinding to 200 mesh, then packaged in 50 lb sacks or 1 MT bags for containerized shipping.
Industrial Applications
Drilling Fluids
Versatile drilling fluid and cement additive that improves wellbore stability, enhances lubrication, reduces torque, and provides consistent performance in demanding high-temperature environments.
Road Construction
Enhances asphalt sealers by increasing durability, water resistance, and rejuvenating pavement surfaces for heavy traffic applications.
Paints & Inks
Acts as a high-performance binder, dispersant, and stabilizer in industrial paints and specialty ink formulations.
Tires
Increases strength, abrasion resistance, and longevity in rubber compounds for tire manufacturing.
Foundries
Combined with coal and sand to ensure better molding and overall finish of metal castings in industrial foundry operations.
Emerging Research
Additional applications under active research including CO₂ capture and recovery, environmental remediation, and advanced material science.
